The use of biocides is necessary in papermaking due to the high volumes of water used and the amount of it that’s recycled. This water contains large amounts of nutrients from the pulp itself, additives, starch, and the temperature ideal for microbiological growth. This growth leads to the formation of biofilm, commonly known as slime, which forms on parts of the machine, tanks, chests and silos, this can then break away and causes faults, holes and breaks.
The microbial growth can be controlled using oxidising, Non Oxidising biocides, Chlorine dioxide or bio-dispersants. These can be assembled to give a very effective controlled programme that will cause minimum disruption to production with minimum cost per ton of finished paper.
