Chlorine dioxide is a commonly used biocide in water treatment for control of bacteria in water systems. The main advantage of using chlorine dioxide is that it breaks down biofilm within the system being treated and creates no nasty by-products.
Chlorine dioxide can be used to treat the following applications:
- Cooling Water (cooling towers, closed recirculating systems)
eliminates biofilm and legionella in the system. Not pH dependent like chlorine and bromine. - Building Services (treatment of hot and cold water systems)
cleans all the pipework, removes biofilm in the system, allows temperature to be reduced to 45oC, saving up to 25% on water heating costs. - Odour Control (in farming applications-poultry, pigs etc, effluent plant, rubbish tips)
reacts with odour-causing chemicals in the water and air that cause the smells particularly sulphur containing compounds mercaptans, and ammonia. - Cleaning & Sanitisation (in food industry, vegetable & salad washing, surface cleaning as foam)
kills all bacteria, particularly legionella, salmonella, campylobacter, E. coli and coliforms. Will not taint the flavour of food, or bleach it in the case of poultry. - Temperature Reduction for hot water systems
energy saving up to 25% of gas used in heating hot water. - Disinfection of Water Systems (following high-count or legionella positives)
we supply dosing units and chemicals – PPR can install and commission your system. - L8 Control
improves the management of L8 due to not relying on temperature as the control method. Cleans pipework, calorifiers and tanks (where installed before or in the tank). - Cleaning & Disinfection

chlorine dioxide improves scale control in the water system by a slight lowering of the pH this increases the solubility of scale, hence less deposition.
